This one dates back nearly a decade and involves a contest KDND Sacramento held that lead to the death of one of its listeners. The hearing, regarding the license renewal of KDND Sacramento, stems from the 2007 contest called “Hold Your Wee for a Wii” in which the contestant who was able to drink water at regular intervals for the longest time without urinating or vomiting won a Nintendo Wii. Contestant Jennifer Strange died after the contest.

Remember all those high hopes radio executives had for political advertising revenue that was supposed to come to radio but didn't? Now look who's turning to radio in the home stretch of this presidential election: Hillary Clinton. But it's not by purchasing ads...

That's according to Zenith Media, which also says 75% of global Internet use will be mobile next year. The predictions are part of Zenith’s new Mobile Advertising Forecasts. Mobile use of the Internet has increased from 40% in 2012 to 68% in 2016, and Zenith is forecasting it to reach 79% by 2018.

In his latest blog posting, Cumulus/Westwood One Chief Insights Officer Pierre Bouvard has laid out some data for radio stations to take to clients as the all-important fourth-quarter holiday shopping season gets ready to launch. The final three months of the year have typically been radio's best, and Bouvard lays out the forecast for the shopping season and how radio should be participating in snatching up those Q4 advertising dollars.

After the election dust has settled, a new administration will be taking the reins of the nation’s regulatory agencies. How will a new FCC treat radio? Will there be opportunities for reform of broadcast-ownership rules under a new Congress and new FCC?

And that translates to $1.3 billion, a record quarter for the satellite broadcaster. The company now expects full-year 2016 revenues to be approximately $5 billion.

The company added 345,000 net new subscribers during Q3 to edge closer to the 31 million subscriber mark. Self-pay net additions were 385,000 during the third quarter, resulting in self-pay total subscribers of 25.5 million. By the end of 2016, the company expects net self-pay subscriber additions of approximately 1.6 million and total net subscriber additions of approximately 1.7 million. CEO Jim Meyer said there are now 91 million automobiles on the road with SiriusXM installed and that included a 73% penetration rate in the third quarter.
