Radio One Baltimore Launches “Kels In The Afternoon”

A few months ago, Radio One announced the promotion of Vernon Kelson to Operations Manager for its Baltimore cluster of stations. Now, Kelson, a Baltimore native, is taking over afternoons on WERQ 92Q FM starting Monday. This is the replacement show for The Fam with QuickSilva and Lil’ Mo, which transitions to Radio One DC on WKYS 93.9 FM on January 19, 2016.

ESPN Launches New Shows, New Voices

ESPN Radio will launch a new weekend lineup beginning Saturday, Jan. 9, highlighted by the debut of espnW’s The Trifecta with Spain, Jane and Kate on ESPN Radio. The program, which will air Saturdays, noon – 3 p.m. ET, will be hosted by espnW writers Kate Fagan, Jane McManus, and Sarah Spain.

Emmis Announces Cutbacks, Pay Reductions

In a move that perhaps signals the final three months of 2015 were weak for Emmis, the company has announced expense reductions across the company. Two days ago we told you that the contract of Deon Levingston was not being renewed by Emmis. Yesterday, we heard from Emmis' St. Louis market that there were several people let go, including a DOS, GSM, account executives, and on-air personalities. We expect to hear more details from Emmis CEO Jeff Smulyan later this morning on the company earnings call at 9 a.m. When we contacted the Emmis corporate office about the cuts over the past several days, here's the statement we received:

Nielsen has released its 2015 music year-end report. Total consumption for 2015, album sales plus track equivalent albums and streaming equivalent albums, increased more than 15% over 2014, led by the continued surge in streaming. More than 317 billion songs were streamed on-demand in 2015 through audio and video platforms, an increase of 92.8% from 2014
