Alpha Gives KTFM San Antonio Some Energy

Alpha’s KTFM 94.1 is now called Energy 94.1 — “The station that sounds like San Antonio.” All the live and local DJ’s are staying in place, and the music is basically the same with a little more Latin flare thrown in. The big change is the rebrand. KTFM first signed on the air in San Antonio in 1969 at 102.7 on the FM dial. In 2005, KTFM landed on 94.1 as Jammin’ and by 2010 became the top 40 “Puro San Antonio” station.

  1. Also if I might add that one of the reasons why they would use the energy name is because hot is already in use by clear channel. They should have used the power moniker for the rebrand. It just leaves clear channel to do a rebrand of mix 96.1 to power 96.1. Alpha should have considered such equation before the rebranding. Time will tell. But I don’t expect either the current format and/or the station’s name branding to last greater than 2 years.

  2. Another Brand name? Lotta changes since it was “Star 94.” And “energy” tends to lean more towards upbeat “disco” and “Pride Anthems” sounds. So the music probably should be changed more than a bit. Saying you are local is not gonna get you ratings. Showing it and being consistent will. This appears to be a stunt to get the industry talking, on both stations that stunted.

    • They have never been Star 94. You have the station confused with KROM. While energy seems to be the moniker for edm/dance, it was kxtj-lp 96.9 which played around with that format using the energy branding just one year ago. The author left out the flop rhythmic hot adult contemporary format that was previously on 94.1 that sounded pure northwestern America rather than pure San Antonio you know from March 2008 until 2010 right after they dropped the disco, and the old school rap.
