When was the last time an FM signal sold for a few thousand dollars? 3,000-watt WLPW-FM (105.5), licensed to Lake Placid, NY (market 148), is being sold for $32,000 by Radio Lake Placid Inc. The buyer is North Country Radio Inc. and the broker for the deal was Jason James of Patrick Communications.

On Monday, the Supreme Court struck down a federal law that prohibits sports gambling and gives states the go-ahead to legalize betting on sports. That could create an entirely new advertising category that radio managers might want to keep their eyes on.

The Washington Times reports that a restaurant syndicated host Michael Savage frequents received a threatening e-mail demanding they deny the host service. Authorities are investigating. Savage decided not to go to that location and is taking the threat seriously.

And they were given 10 days to shut down...or else. A business in Brooklyn was operating at 93.7-FM. Jaril Garcia is accused of operating an illegal station on 99.3 in Paterson, New Jersey. Michael Costa is nailed for his pirate radio station at 89.9, "The Juice Broadcasting Network," in Providence. And Maglie Plaismond in Cranston, Rhode Island, was told to shut down an operation at 97.9-FM.
