The SAVE KPLU campaign needs to raise $7 million by June 30, which matches the amount of the current deal between Pacific Lutheran University and the University of Washington. If the money is raised, KPLU-FM in Seattle will become an independent, community-licensed station. The community group Friends of 88-5 FM is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.

The deadline for the Radio Mercury Awards has been extended by a week. The new deadline is April 27.

SalesFuel released its 7th annual “State of Media Sales” survey Tuesday which was conducted in January and February and included 1,078 media sales managers, executive managers, and sales representatives about their perceptions of the sales industry. 127 of the respondents were from radio industry. Denise Bohn Stewart was co-host of the Denise & Johnny in the Morning show on Midwest Family's 98.3 The Coast in Central Michigan. Stewart and her husband were both found dead in their home Tuesday. The local media is reporting that the incident was a murder-suicide. Stewart, who was 45, was apparently killed by her 51-year-old husband Eric Stewart. He then apparently killed himself.

At a luncheon on Tuesday, The National Association of Broadcasters announced the 10 recipients of the 29th Annual Crystal Radio Awards. CBS took home three of those 10, KNX-AM in L.A., WCCO-AM in Minneapolis, and WWJ-AM in Detroit. The Crystal Award recognizes radio stations for their outstanding year-round commitment to community service. Here is a complete listing of this year's winners.

Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic, hosts of ESPN Radio’s weekday morning show Mike & Mike, were inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters Broadcasting Hall of Fame Tuesday in Las Vegas.

Voters seem to be tired of politics as usual. Traditional candidates are not resonating with voters. That’s according to Garvey Schubert Barer’s Brad Deutsch. Radio’s political ad spend revenue is expected to be just under $1 billion this year. Nathaniel Kronisch of Buying Time told attendees at a session for NAB 2016 that while broadcast was dominating the political ad spend in 2012, now its big data. His company is using data to micro-target voters with custom messaging.

Washington, D.C.’s WTOP was honored with five Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, Tuesday, by the Radio Television Digital News Association. The WTOP news team was recognized in the Overall Excellence category for the fifth time in the past seven years for its coverage in the D.C. region.
