Meruelo Media has again reduced its staff in Los Angeles, this time cutting Kevin Ryder and Doug “Sluggo” Roberts from KLOS. Ryder revealed the news of his and Roberts’ dismissal on social media on Friday. The duo had hosted afternoons on the station since 2021.

The Kevin & Sluggo pairing marked a reunion for the two former KROQ personalities. Roberts spent decades on KROQ under various personas, while Ryder, alongside Gene “Bean” Baxter, hosted mornings for three decades as Kevin & Bean.
When Baxter retired in 2019, Ryder started Kevin in the Morning with Allie & Jensen, which was unexpectedly canceled by KROQ a year later. Before teaming up with Ryder, Roberts had been hosting solo on KLOS since joining the station in 2019. Roberts continues to host shows on SiriusXM.
Meruelo has not yet announced any succession plans for the time slot.
Earlier this year, Meruelo cut hosts across all four of its L.A. stations, along with part-time and off-air staffers. The RIF saw James Andrew Corrine, known on air as DJ Felli Fel, laid off from Power 106 after more than two decades. KLOS midday host Marci Wiser, who had been with the station since 2015, was also among those affected. She is now hosting mornings up the California coast, at Audacy’s Live 105 in San Francisco.
I too found the drive in the afternoons so much better listening to Kevin and Sluggo. I laughed out loud so many times – great entertainment and music. They are great radio personalities and why would any radio station in their right mind fire them?
I know money is important to running a station but without listeners you’re sunk anyway. Hard finding good music and entertaining hosts – really think you made a big mistake. I don’t listen as often as I did on a daily basis when Kevin and Sluggo were on. I looked forward to their program.
The only familiar radio personalities left on KLOS now are Heidi and Frank and their team.
Without real personalities you are just any other radio station playing music.
Just finding this out today on October 1, bec my sept was hectic. Kevin and Sluggo kept afternoon drives In my car so funny and lively. They took requests and delivered epic drive home music and integrated classic alternative with classic classic rock. I’ll always listen to klos tbh but how dare you guys eliminate relevant entertaining dj’s again. I know it’s a new modern world where devices are the goto but still, your duty as radio station owners is to keep people tuned in and you eliminated a team that was doing it well.
