Caroline To Canada

Canadian Music Week has announced that Beasley Media Group CEO Caroline Beasley will be a featured speaker in a session called “A Radio Executive’s View From The Corner Office.” The session will feature several radio executives and cover the overall positioning of radio today, its future, and how digital fits into the landscape.

In 2017, Beasley was named Radio Ink’s “Radio Executive of the Year” and has been on our “40 Most Powerful People in Radio” list in 2011, 2012, 2016, and 2017. The Canadian Music Week 2-day radio conference, being held in May in Toronto, is now in its 36th year.

  1. Canadian radio has an advantage over American operators in that the CRTC – the equivalent of the FCC – long ago put severe limits on the number of stations allowed in a given market.
Nevertheless, Canadian radio programs the same as its U.S. counterparts.
As such and even with those extraordinary advantages, Canadian radio is still under the same programming and sales pressures.
Audiences and advertisers are also tragically under-served.
Whatever Caroline has to say might, in some ways, still be pertinent. But, I doubt she will be packing any smoking gun. Radio here is as stagnant as in the Excited States. Much more than recycled dogma is required – for everybody.
Besides, she won’t be able to smuggle any weapons through customs.
We have great big gun laws. 🙂
