For the third year in a row, the New Jersey 101.5 news team is the recipient of a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award from the RTDNA. The “Best Newscast” honor was for its Nov. 3, 2021 edition of New Jersey's First News with Eric Scott, which was broadcast the morning after Election Day.

Radio executives from all over the country are heading to Las Vegas for the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show this week. Buzz Knight will have daily reports for Radio Ink from the floor of the show, and the radio industry is hosting a special VIP reception.

The panel discussion on the role broadcasters played during the mass shooting in Las Vegas will be moderated by Beasley Las Vegas morning host Carla Rae. FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr will give remarks prior to the discussion. The panel, called “Crisis on the Strip: Reporting in an Unfolding Emergency,” will be held Tuesday, April 10 at 1:30 p.m.

Emmis CEO Jeff Smulyan, who also owned the Seattle Mariners at one time, and launched the first all-sports radio station in the country, WFAN, has written a book that will come out in 2022. It's called Never Ride a Roller Coaster Upside Down.

It should come as no surprise that with the kind of election year we've been having that News/Talk stations are experiencing increased listening. Nielsen says PPM ratings for October show News/Talk stations are growing audience, which is a trend Nielsen says has been happening over the past year.

'Celebrate the USA' is Westwood One's annual USA birthday party special. Lee Brice will host the two-hour special.

The annual The RTDNA/Hofstra University Survey on news staffing was released Monday and the results were basically flat. The survey showed the typical radio news operation had a full-time news staff of one, a number that has remained the same for decades.
