It was "no comment" all around following the one-paragraph note sent around to the press stating that Emmis would be exiting the St. Louis market by selling two FMs to Hubbard and two FMs to Entercom. With St. Louis coming off the board for Emmis, that would leave the company in only three markets.

The $150 million Triton purchase by Scripps was at a revenue multiple of 3.7X ($40 million), and Scripps executives boasted on a conference call Wendesday that they "got a really good deal." They saw Triton as a target and went after it.

On Wednesday, the Department of Justice opened a review of the nearly 80-year-old consent decrees governing how ASCAP and BMI license music. The decrees have been the solid framework that's given radio stations at least some consistency in what they pay PRO's for the right to air music from their repertoires.

Again, this comes as no surprise with the government mandated shutdown of the national economy earlier this year. Entercom's Q2 revenue was down 54% with April being the bottom.

Although there have been no press releases, and there probably will not be, it's clear country star Morgan Wallen is being added back to radio stations across the country. Back in February Wallen received close to an industry-wide ban after he was caught on tape using the "N" word.

After problems surrounding a delayed disclosure of Urban One's 2022 earnings, the company is changing accounting firms. Urban One had been using BDO, but after a mishap around the accounting on MGM National Harbor profits, they are moving to Ernst and Young.

Good Karma Brands announced the company will vacate its 98.7 WEPN signal by August 31, 2024 to concentrate on digital distribution and its 1050 AM frequency. The move comes as WEPN owner Emmis Corporation continues its total exit from radio broadcasting.

"Not required for public safety. Not popular with consumers. And now we know: not cheap." That is the description of the AM band given as the automotive industry brings its heavy guns to bear on radio via campaigns and lobbying.

NPR's Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Katherine Maher as its new President and Chief Executive Officer. Maher previously led the Wikimedia Foundation, where she doubled fundraising income, and established an endowment for Wikipedia.
