Marty “The Gunner” Griffin, Program Director and On-Air Personality in Chico, CA, has retired from KZAP after a 40-year career in radio. Griffin’s passion for radio began at a young age when he set up a makeshift station in his parents’ living room. He pursued a career in radio, obtaining his FCC license and hosting shows in high school and college.

In an interview with Chico’s Enterprise-Record, Griffin said his most memorable on-air moments include hosting a show following the 1980 murder of John Lennon and experiencing the Loma Prieta earthquake while in studio. He retired from KFM in 2004 but returned to radio as Program Director for KZAP after running an airport shuttle company for 15 years.

Griffin expressed gratitude to his listeners and colleagues, appreciating their support and the connections he made. Deer Creek Broadcasting GM Dino Corbin said, “Marty is one of the great broadcasters. He served our community well and is a true talented professional. It  was an honor working with him.”.
