Gift Shop Running Pirate Station In Waco

Dwayne and Marilyn Banks, owners of Marilyn’s Gift Gallery in Waco, have been caught operating an illegal radio station from a commercial suite in Waco at 107.3-FM. The Banks were caught back in September by field agents from the Dallas office and had 10 days to respond to the Commission as of October 13.

It was a busy few weeks for the Federal Communications Commission Enforcement Bureau, rounding up another 14 pirate broadcasters (in addition to the gift shop in the previous story). Five were located in Florida, seven in Massachusetts, one in New Jersey, and one in Brooklyn. Here are the details on the latest round of illegal operators.

Main Studio Rule Hits FCC Agenda

The Federal Communications Commission will meet on Tuesday, October 24 at 10:30 a.m. and item #6 on the agenda is the Elimination of Main Studio Rule. The Commission will consider a Report and Order eliminating the rule that requires each AM, FM, and TV station to maintain a main studio located in or near its community of license.

In supplemental comments filed with the FCC, the Minority Media and Telecommunications Council says the Main Studio Rule is bad for minority broadcasters because it imposes a greater disadvantage on broadcasters who entered the industry later and were unable to assemble clusters of stations that each shared the same community license. Tuesday was “Tax Reform Day at the White House,” and the Trump Administration used Talk Radio to get its message out. Salem Radio Network's Mike Gallagher scored the first interview with the President (WATCH HERE). According to Zenith Media's 2017 Advertising Forecast, smartphones and tablets, are now the primary way users access the Internet. Mobile will account for 73% of time spent using the internet in 2018, up from 65% in 2016. By 2019, Zenith predicts that number to grow to 76%. And, in 2017, 53% of all internet ad spend is taking place on mobile devices with that number expected to grow to 62% by 2019.
