(By Brian Brian Winnekins ) To say I was overwhelmed by the reaction to my recent article in Radio Ink about my frustrations about working with advertising agencies would be an understatement. My email started going crazy at 4:30 a.m. when I came into work on Monday.

The ten-day Kellar Radio Talent Institute kicks off today at Appalachian State University. Twenty-five students from four universities have been accepted into the Institute. There are no breakout sessions; every student will be in every session, including the RAB Radio Marketing Professional Certification course.

And that goes into effect today, as Broadcast Attorney David Oxenford reminds us in his latest blog. For the next 60 days, stations are required to charge political candidates the “lowest unit rate” for comparable advertising time that runs on their stations.

President Biden’s nominee to the FCC, GiGi Sohn, is withdrawing her nomination. Her 16-month battle in the Senate to be confirmed comes to an end and leaves the FCC with 4 members; 2 Democrats and 2 Republicans.

Educational Media Foundation broke ground on its new global headquarters outside of Nashville in the Berry Farms community of Franklin, Tenn., on Friday, May 27. EMF CEO Bill Reeves said, “I really feel like we’re standing on sacred ground here.  I feel like God brought us to these 11 acres.”

Adams Radio Group's AC station in Fort Wayne, 103.9 Sunny FM (WWFW), flipped the switch on Wednesday. It's the fourth consecutive year the station has been serving up holiday music to Fort Wayne listeners.

On Friday Cox Media Group Atlanta's 5 radio stations will host a virtual food drive benefiting the Atlanta Community Food Bank as part of the Stronger Together ATL campaign. Listeners will be able to make monetary donations on the station websites.

Alpha’s KLGR/Redwood Falls, CA, and Kohl’s Weelborg Ford collected 23,857 pounds of food with the 15th Annual Freezing for Food event, which took place December 5-7. Listeners were encouraged to bring cash or food donations to Kohl's and four other drop points.

North Texas Public Broadcasting is marking the 10th year of broadcasting for KXT 91.7 FM with a series of events marking the station's commitment to the local music community.
