The Senate voted to confirm Republican Nathan Simington to the FCC on Tuesday, which means there are now two Republicans and two Democrats on the Commission. If the Republican controlled Senate refuses to confirm a Biden nominee, it could mean a deadlocked FCC for the foreseeable future.

Kagan: $90 Million in Q1 Radio Deals

It was the lowest quarterly radio deal volume since 2012 according to the folks at Kagan. The top radio deal of the quarter was the $10.0 million sale of non-commercial KUHA-FM in Houston followed by another non-commercial transaction, the $8.0 million sale of FM stations KPLI, KPLU, KPLI and KVIX as well as seven translators and one translator construction permit in Seattle from Pacific Lutheran University to University of Washington.

RMLC Files Injunction Against GMR

The Radio Music License Committee has filed a motion, it says, to protect radio stations across the nation, and specifically in Pennsylvania, against Irving Azoff's Global Music Rights. The RMLC filed an antitrust lawsuit in the federal court in Philadelphia, last year against the music licensing organization, based on GMR’s "attempt to require commercial radio stations to pay prices for music performance licenses that are unfairly high and anticompetitive." This injunction is radio's latest move in its fight against Azoff.
