Alpha Media Lubbock is mourning the loss of Amy Garza, known as “Amy O” on 104.9 The Beat (KBTE), who died in a motorcycle crash in San Antonio early April 20. Garza, 45, was confirmed as the victim by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The incident occurred when Garza, as a passenger, was ejected from the motorcycle after a truck allegedly sideswiped her and the driver. The truck left the scene. Neither Garza nor the motorcycle driver, who sustained a broken leg and is being treated at a local hospital, were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

Alpha Media Lubbock SVP Jay Richardson said, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Amy. It is rare to find a person as passionate as she was to her career and community. I had the opportunity to work with Amy for the last 14 years and she was the face and energy behind 104.9 The Beat. It is impossible to replace what she brought to our organization and to the people of Lubbock.”

Lubbock councilwoman Christy Martinez-Garcia posted on Facebook, “I’m in utter shock. I just spoke with Amy O. She scheduled an interview with me for this Wednesday, she made me so proud and I told her that. I was so excited about our meeting…We’ve lost a dear friend and an advocate. Lubbock will feel her absence immensely.”

Townsquare Lubbock’s FMX paid tribute, saying, “The entire crew at FMX would like to express our condolences to the friends, fans, and family of Lubbock radio legend, Amy O. She made the world, and radio, a better place to be. She will be missed forever.”

Magic 106.5 also posted, “On behalf of Magic 106.5 and our parent company, Ramar Communications we would like to express our deepest condolences to Amy O’s family, friends, colleagues and listeners. Amy O was the Content Director PD & On-Air personality for 104.9 The Beat here in town. Amy O’s untimely death is very heartbreaking and a big loss for the Lubbock radio industry. Please join us as we keep Amy O’s loved ones in our thoughts and prayers.”

To support the family with funeral costs, a GoFundMe has been established.
