A Surprise in my Mailbox

1

(By Pat Bryson) And, yes, it was a NICE surprise.  I had just returned from a long and shall we say, “interesting” week on the road. I collected my mail from my P.O. Box and found a small, brown envelope in it. The return address was Kentucky.

I opened it. Here’s what it said:

“Ms. Pat:

I appreciate your emails of encouragement each month. Yes, it is overdue that you should also receive a BIG THANK YOU! God Bless and Have a Great Day!

– Bruce Gee”

This small envelope just made my day. I felt appreciated.

Now, this isn’t written as a plea for more cards. It is written as a palpable reminder that a word of encouragement can give the recipient the lift needed to create a smile. We never know what is happening in the private world of those we encounter. A small act of appreciation and kindness can change their perspective on life, at least for the moment.

I emailed Bruce to thank him for the thank you. He told me that he sends out a few cards each week to his clients. Good for him: Good for the people to whom he sends his notes. I made a note to do the same.

I write often about the power of the “thank you”. They are especially powerful when received for no reason in particular except that you were thinking of the other person and wanted to express gratitude.

Shouldn’t we take a note from Bruce and make this a part of our weekly activities? My thanks to Bruce for reminding me of how important this is.

Happy Selling!
