Cumulus Media, Xperi, and Super Hi-Fi have joined forces to introduce two innovative digital radio channels in Nashville. These stations not only aim to provide a localized listening experience but also serve as a testbed for new radio programs and services.

The Hill (WGFX-HD2) and Nashville Songwriter Radio (WGFX-HD3) use a combination of Xperi’s HD Radio technology, Super Hi-Fi’s artificial intelligence ‘Program Director‘ Radio Operating System, and Cumulus Media’s signal.

Nashville Songwriter Radio celebrates Music City’s thriving songwriter community, featuring tracks from local artists and the classic sounds that define the Nashville music scene. The Hill offers a blend of popular music across genres, and is developed in partnership with Green Hill High School to provide students with hands-on experience in radio programming.

By utilizing HD Radio technology and DTS AutoStage, the initiative seeks to expand listenership through enhanced in-vehicle radio experiences, offering personalized discovery, targeted audience engagement, and advanced analytics.

Cumulus Media CTO Conrad Trautmann remarked, “By partnering with Super Hi-Fi and Xperi, we are adopting innovative technology that allows us to connect to new, local communities with targeted programming by leveraging our HD radio ancillary channels that have the potential to reach different audiences around the country.”

Xperi SVP of Broadcast and Digital Audio Joe D’Angelo commented, “We see this as the logical next step in our collaboration with both the radio and automotive industries. Bringing new capabilities to the market will provide valuable services to broadcasters, advertisers and most importantly, improve the listening experience for end users.”

Super Hi-Fi CEO Zack Zalon added, “Super Hi-Fi is excited to collaborate with Xperi and Cumulus to create these groundbreaking HD Radio experiences. We’re proud to contribute to the rich musical tapestry of Nashville by bringing these new hyper-local HD Radio formats to the market.”
