91.5 the Lion (WFHU), the radio station serving Freed-Hardeman University and Tennessee’s Chester County for over six decades, has a new leader. University President David R. Shannon revealed that Dr. Matt Barker took over as the station’s manager on August 1.

Dr. Barker is no stranger to the radio and sports broadcasting world. Before joining WFHU, he served as a communication faculty member and was also FHU’s sports information director. He was responsible for in-game broadcasting and recently completed his Ph.D. in communication.

He succeeds Jud Davis, who led the station for a decade, and oversaw significant upgrades to the station’s infrastructure, including improvements to the tower and transmitter. He will now shift his focus to developing other programs within Freed-Hardeman University.

Davis commended Barker, saying, “Dr. Barker is a natural fit for this post. While his experience and education make him an obvious pick, his rapport with students and involvement in our athletic department and our community make his appointment a very exciting selection. I look forward to what Dr. Barker has planned for the station.”

FHU Provost C.J. Vires added, “We are excited to welcome Dr. Matt Barker as the new radio station manager at WFHU 91.5. His expertise in the industry and dedication to delivering high-quality programming make him the perfect fit for this role. We are confident that Dr. Barker will lead WFHU with the same commitment to excellence that our listeners have come to know and appreciate.”
