Jim Donovan, the radio voice of the Cleveland Browns, has announced that he will be taking a hiatus from his broadcasting duties to focus on his ongoing leukemia treatment. Donovan made the announcement following the Browns’ 24-3 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

The veteran broadcaster has been a staple of Cleveland sports coverage since the Browns’ NFL return in 1999. He experienced a relapse in his fight against leukemia last spring and has been under treatment at University Hospital’s Seidman Cancer Center. Chris Rose, who was the play-by-play announcer for the Browns’ preseason games, will fill in for Donovan as the interim announcer.

Donovan said, “In addition to my teams at WKYC, the Browns, and of course my wife (Cheryl) and daughter (Meghan), I have an amazing group of doctors and caregivers at University Hospital’s Seidman Cancer Center and I truly appreciate everyone’s support. I promise I’ll be a listener, and I’ll be back as soon as I can.”

The Browns Radio Network flagship station, 92.3 the Fan, confirmed Rose’s interim role through a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
