KDKA Launches FM Signal

News Radio 1020 KDKA will simulcast on FM for the first time ever and be heard as 100.1 FM and 1020 AM KDKA, effective November 2. Giving up the dial position is WAMO-FM; it will move to 107.3 FM

“KDKA Radio is part of the radio history books not just here in Pittsburgh, but on a national level,” said Michael Spacciapolli, SVP/MM, Entercom Pittsburgh. “After serving Pittsburghers on our AM dial for the last 100 years, we are thrilled to expand the reach of historic KDKA on FM.”

The expansion is part of the stations yearlong centennial celebration which has also included various original sound, historical soundbites and a special weekly program every Wednesday.

  1. Unless the 100.1 translator is applying to upgrade, it is weaker than the 107.3 translator that WAMO is moving to. The 100.1 translator is currently 99 watts; the 107.3 signal is a full 250 watts.

Doesn’t make sense for KDKA to go with the weaker signal…

    • I am sure it was part of the negotiation. They get an FM signal – which is better than just an AM, but they need to trade a better FM signal. (Just speculation on my part…)
