Mark Wainwright Abruptly Leaves 570/WSYR In Syracuse

The veteran morning host left the station after what turned out to be his final show on Friday, July 20. Strangely, he’d said nothing on the air of his planned departure. He did, however, post a “farewell” blog on the station’s Web page. Wainrwright began his career as a disc jockey more than four decades ago, moving into News/Talk in the late 1980s. He then spent several years away from radio before arriving at WSYR in March of 2013 as a frequent fill-in morning host. He assumed a bigger role when his predecessor Joe Galuski fell ill in 2014, then became the full-time morning host after Galuski’s passing in 2015.

Here is a portion of what Wainwright said about his departure from WSYR:

“I’ll skip over a lot of the details, but the end result is that my contract ended in July and I decided to move on. It was as amicable and as mutually respectful a separation as anyone could want. We parted on good terms, and I would not hesitate to work for iHeartMedia again if the right situation came along. In fact, the management at WSYR and several other iHeart stations indicated they would be happy to bring me back as a fill-in or guest host as the need arises, and at least one program director told me he definitely plans to call on me at some point. I’m looking forward to that.”

  1. I love Dave Allen! He keeps his “cool” making it easier for me to transition to wakefulness. I don’t like to be blasted awake in the early morning. Screaming news reporters turn me off which makes me turn them off. I don’t understand why they can’t tell me what’s happening in a conversational tone instead of a vocal roller coaster.

    Greetings from Mary Ann Cartner

  2. Was thinking maybe he fell ill again although I’m certainly happy that’s not the case. Very happy with Dave Allen as morning show host who has replaced Mark. Just was wondering.
