Two weeks after their suspensions, WNYC hosts Leonard Lopate (left) and Jonathan Schwartz have been fired. NYPR placed Lopate and Schwartz on leave on December 6, pending investigations into “inappropriate conduct.”
NYPR spokesperson Jennifer Houlihan Roussel said, “New York Public Radio has terminated the employment of Leonard Lopate and Jonathan Schwartz following two separate investigations overseen by outside counsel. These investigations found that each individual had violated our standards for providing an inclusive, appropriate, and respectful work environment. In each investigation, an outside investigator interviewed multiple witnesses as well as Lopate and Schwartz.”
Lopate has been a host at the station for more than 30 years. His daily, two-hour program features interviews with leading figures in the arts and entertainment world. WNYC’s Mary Harris will fill in for Lopate.
Schwartz is the host of The Jonathan Channel as well as several hours of programming on Saturday and Sunday.

Public radio is such a waste. They never hire people. Always asks for volunteers. WNYC is a joke.
