How Will Radio Get Young Talent? Dana Cortez Knows

0

Radio Ink’s annual Most Influential Women issue introduces our readers to our industry’s best and brightest: the show hosts, executives, consultants, and communications specialists that make radio what it is.

With managers and owners struggling with finding and retaining new talent, we asked this year’s honorees how radio convinces and attracts the next generation of broadcasters, especially women.

Here’s what Skyview Networks syndicated personality Dana Cortez had to say:

“I think the better question would be, ‘Why aren’t programmers willing to develop new talent?’ Look for them in schools, clubs, concerts, or in your own building. You think your promo-techs & interns are doing this work just because? The very fact they’re THERE is proof they want in, it’s up to you to take the time to train them or they’ll eventually get tired of waiting & move on. Someone worked with me, air-checked me, invested their TIME in me, and if that hadn’t happened, I wouldn’t be here. Leave your office and go talk to people. Who knows, the next big superstar could be right under your nose.”

Dana is right: the people working at your station have demonstrated their commitment to radio. Are you ready to commit to them with mentorship, training, and a willingness to invest in their careers?

Radio Ink subscribers can read the full issue, including full responses from Dana and our other 2023 MIWs, along with stellar tips, ideas, and training from our industry’s top trainers and consultants, on May 15th.
