Maria O’Mara has been named the Executive Director of the University of Utah’s two statewide public media outlets. Effective February 1, O’Mara will oversee both KUER-FM 90.1 and PBS Utah.
“From a practical standpoint, much of what PBS Utah and KUER do in terms of administrative work is parallel: accounting, FCC and CPB oversight, university policies and legal compliance, human resources, purchasing and facilities management,” O’Mara said in a press release posted on the KUER website. “Having the same person responsible for those things will be both more efficient and more effective for both stations.”
O’Mara started her career as a reporter at KUER in the 1990s. After leaving the station she spent 20 years in reporting and news management roles in Utah, Illinois, and New York. She returned to the station in 2017 to serve as General Manager.
