Ted Byrne, a sports radio fixture in Charleston, SC, was killed in a traffic accident over the weekend. Kirkman Broadcasting confirmed the veteran broadcaster’s death. Byrne was 71.
In his career, Byrne was the voice of the Citadel Bulldogs and Charleston Minor League baseball teams. He is a member of the Charleston Baseball Hall of Fame. Most recently he was a producer for Kirkman’s Sports Talk Stations, and did play-by-play for area high school football games.
Byrne was a cancer survivor, beating non-Hodgkins large cell lymphoma. Police continue to investigate the one-vehicle crash.
