CMG’s Rapid Response For Battered Oklahoma

The Cox Media Group-Tulsa cluster raised $126,922 during its 13-hour fundraiser for the American Red Cross of Oklahoma on Thursday, May 30. News 102.3 KRMG, K95.5, Mix96.5, 103.3 The Eagle, and 105.7 The Bone joined KOKI-TV at LaFortune Park broadcasting live for the entirety of the bucket brigade fundraiser. All funds raised have been earmarked to stay in Oklahoma to assist with the recovery efforts following historic flooding and tornadoes.

The James M. Cox Family Foundation kicked off the event by vowing to match every donation up to $50,000. “This is such a great story of the speed in which local media properties can respond to the needs of our communities,” said Bill Hendrich, Executive Vice President of Cox Media Group.

Tulsa citizens responded by dropping off donations at LaFortune and donating online. Red Cross volunteers partnered with the CMG talent to accept donations and thank supporters.

“We knew Tulsa would respond to an opportunity to help their neighbors in a time of need, but we are absolutely blown away by the amount raised,” said CMG-Tulsa Market Vice President Cathy Gunther. “It makes CMG-Tulsa and our employees proud to be able to respond quickly in difficult times and make an immediate impact. This is what Cox Media Group is all about.”

  1. The power of local radio is showing again. A big THANKS to CMG, the Red Cross and local radio for this successful outpouring of help and funds to the communities destroyed by the flooding and weather disaster.
