Eddie Esserman is the new Managing Director at the brokerage firm, taking over for George Reed. Esserman has been a director at MSG for nearly 20 years. Reed said, “I look forward to devoting more time to brokering. Thirteen years as Managing Director is at least 10 more than I ever intended. Eddie will do a great job and I greatly appreciate his willingness to step forward.” MSG also announced that Will Cate is joining the company as Research Director.

Following a career in radio management in Atlanta and San Francisco, Esserman built a group of radio stations in small rated and unrated markets in the Southeast. Along with George Reed, he co-owns tower group US Antenna, and co-founded Inside Towers, an online publication written for the leaders in the wireless tower industry. Esserman is a member of the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame, and has served on the boards of both the NAB and GAB. In 2011, Esserman was appointed by the Department of Justice to serve as the trustee for a mandated divestiture of three stations as a result of the Cumulus-Citadel merger. He has also testified as an expert witness in bankruptcy matters and been a court-appointed broker and trustee.

Esserman said, “I’m honored to represent and serve with my partners in one of the industry’s most active firms. Our record of closing the most number of deals for the past two decades speaks for itself, and we pride ourselves in great results for our clients, from the largest broadcasters in major markets to single-station owner-operators in small towns and cities. Our tower brokerage business is among the most active in that sector, dealing with both broadcasters and independent tower owners. After almost 13 years of leading MSG tirelessly, I am pleased to relieve George and grateful for his efforts to grow MSG to the position we enjoy today. We are a unique group of individuals that come together under the MSG banner to represent our clients with perhaps the industry’s deepest and broadest experience in all areas of our practices. Our backgrounds have touched all aspects of the practices of the firm’s brokerage as owners, consultants, trustees, and financial advisors.”

Long-time broadcaster, voice artist, and software developer Will Cate joins MSG as Research Director, with online corporate communications as his chief focus. Cate’s involvement with the media brokerage business goes back to the late 1980s, when he managed computer and network technology for Chapman Associates in both Atlanta and Washington, DC.
