Hamilton, who is the KINK-FM Morning Music Run co-host in Portland, will receive the prestigious Judy Cushing Celebrating Life Award during the Always Hope 2017 Gala to benefit Lines for Life on Friday, February 24 at the Sentinel Hotel. Lines for Life is a non-profit organization, dedicated to preventing substance abuse and suicide. She is a five-time Emmy Award-winning journalist and author, who courageously shared her first-hand experience with losing her husband to suicide in her book All the Things We Never Knew. Hamilton is an outspoken advocate for change in mental health care.

“Mental illness, substance abuse, and suicide touch so many families in our society. I’m grateful to be honored by Lines for Life, whose trained volunteers deescalate 98% of the over 17,000 suicide line calls received annually. That’s important, lifesaving work,” said Hamilton.

Scott G. Mahalick, Executive Vice President of Programming for Alpha Media commented, “One of the extraordinary things about Sheila is her relentless giving to the community and her deep passion for dispelling the stigma sometimes associated with mental illness. We are so fortunate to have Sheila on the Alpha team.”
