Mary Lucia is the host for Minnesota Public Radio’s Triple A music station The Current. She began receiving phone calls and packages at work containing items like raw meat and a photo of a masked man, after responding to an email Patrick Kelly sent her about his dog dying.
She told the court, “I never opened my windows. I jumped whenever the motion sensors went off. I triple-locked my doors. When I went to bed at night, I slept with a baseball bat and a cell phone near me. I would dread going to work to see what horror had been dropped off.”
Lucia had to take a leave of absence for eight months when Kelly was stalking her. County Attorney Dan Allard requested Kelly receive the maximum of 5 years probation and he be barred from going within 10 blocks of Lucia’s home or workplace. And that he pay restitution of $9,222.99. Hennepin County District Court Judge William Koch agreed with all of those requests and that he serve 270 days in the county workhouse.
