Radio Indoctrination — Part 2

0
(By Ronald Robinson) I sometimes wonder how many in radio’s ownership and management will, from time to time, spend an hour monitoring — not really listening to — their station(s), and presume something along the lines of: “Sounds pretty good to me.” Then, they will jump into their vehicles and attempt to navigate through the thickest fog of the season.

Making Radio Sound Great Again, One Spot At A Time

Does the radio industry take creative seriously enough to help clients succeed? Why do many advertising agencies lack the desire to spend time on radio creative, caring mostly about a television commercial that takes so much more time to produce and costs so much more than radio? Why do radio stations allow awful-sounding advertisers to record their own commercials? We turned to a very successful creative services company to try to find the answers.

Where Is Radio’s Age Of Enlightenment?

0
(By Ronald Robinson) It can’t be denied: Radio surely had one hell of a run. Even in the days when radio was third in the Print/TV/Radio hierarchy, there was money to be made – lots of money. I was working for a TV/AM/FM combo that sported the finest of facilities, and where my AMer alone was raking in $5 million a year — in late-‘70s dollars!

Radio Helped Roy Spencer Become Big

Roy Spencer (pictured) started his company, Perma-Seal Basement Systems, four decades ago from the back of his pick-up truck. He had that one vehicle, no employees, and only needed to support and feed himself. In 2018, Perma-Seal has three offices and 170 employees in the Chicagoland area. A big reason for his success is he's been a consistent advertiser on Chicago's radio stations. Here's Roy's story (Our weekly Advertiser Success Stories are sponsored by Sun & Fun Media)

Radio Recommended!

(By Bob McCurdy) I've always found that the best way to make a sales point is to have someone else make it for you. Supporting information or an endorsement that comes from independent, well-informed sources is typically more readily accepted as fact. So what do the following respected media/marketing executives have in common?

(By Buzz Knight) The Consumer Electronics Show has come a long way since its inception in June of 1967. The first show had roughly 200 exhibitors and 17,500 attendees spread over  two hotel ballrooms (the Hilton and the Americana). Exhibitors included LG, Motorola, and Philips featured in 100,000 square feet of exhibit space.

(By Buzz Knight) I've been fortunate to make the trek to CES a habit each new year and I'm looking forward to the journey once again this year. CES is an inspiring and eye-opening experience that you won't want to miss. I had the opportunity to speak with Pete Bigelow the Technology and Mobility Editor for the legendary Car and Driver publication.

The Study Everyone’s Talking About

Larry Miller is the Director of the Steinhardt Music Business Program at New York University, and for some reason he's written a report that dumps all over you. The release of this report, backed by SoundExchange, comes at a most interesting time -- when just about every radio station in America is giving up airtime to help the residents in Houston and the Gulf Coast.

KTRH Radio — The Hurricane Harvey Station

1
Radio, in general, has been doing an outstanding job all around during what is a horrible situation in Texas. Specifically, iHeartMedia's News Radio KTRH is one of those stations you simply cannot turn off if you want to know exactly what's going on in that area and how the local residents are feeling.

Debunking The Lie That Millenials Hate Radio

0
We’ve heard it over and over: Radio is not a home for the young, the college graduates, the millennials. Radio Ink took that as a challenge and set out to find happy millenials at radio stations all over the country. We'll be spotlighting those millennials, asking why they’ve chosen this career and why they love working in radio. The first is Galaxy Communications star Katelyn Pray.
