Prince's hometown was Minnesota so, as expected, radio stations in that city are honoring their hometown superstar, perhaps even more than stations outside that city. Market Manager Dan Seeman tells Radio Ink Hubbard's KS95 played non-stop Prince music from 2pm-7pm Thursday from 5:30am -9:00am Friday morning. Billboards were quickly installed to promote Prince's music and remember him.

Dr. Drew Pinsky announced on the Kevin & Bean Show (KROQ Los Angeles) that there will be no more Loveline. Pinsky hosted the 10 p.m. to midnight show for 30 years. He says he wants to focus on other projects.

Bob “Doc” Fuller was born in Newburyport, MA, and raised in neighboring Newbury. Ron Chapman − later to become a Texas radio legend – allowed him to speak his first words on the radio, introducing a record on WHAV-AM in Haverhill, MA. When Fuller was 12 years old, his brother built him a closed-circuit radio station in the basement of the farmhouse where they grew up. The station had wires going to two adjacent homes so the neighbors could listen to Bob’s station.

Chasing digital ad dollars requires different seller thinking. So says Beasley’s Mike Martin. Coming from the Denver Post’s digital sales department to radio, he told attendees at NAB 2016 this week that radio stations are three to five years behind other businesses in terms of sophistication. He says 30% of the typical station’s sales budget is moving to digital.

It was just two days ago that Westwood One announced it would be launching KFOG morning host Matt Pinfield into national syndication with a two-hour weekday program. Now Westwood has sent affiliates an e-mail hoping they will pick up the new Pinfield show to replace the departing Dr. Drew and Loveline. Yahoo! Sports Radio has announced that Pro Football Weekly Radio is returning to the airwaves this Saturday night. The program will be co-hosted by Lewis Woodard and air Saturdays, 11 p.m.-1 a.m. ET.

They are preliminary numbers, however, the NAB says registered attendance for the 2016 show was 103,012, about the same at 2015. Nearly 27,000 attendees were from outside the U.S. and over 1,600 representatives from the media were on hand. The show featured 1,874 companies spanning 1,063,380 net square feet of exhibit space.

Those were the words of FCC Chairman Thomas Wheeler at the NAB Show Wednesday. Although many wonder if the FCC has done way too little, way too late, to make that statement a reality. And, in all likelihood, with a new President about to be elected, Wheeler will be long gone before we really know if the FCC's AM revitalization paid off.

The FCC has granted the license renewal of Bryant University college radio station WJMF-FM in Smithfield, Rhode Island, but only for four years, not the full eight. And the station was hit with a $12,000 fine. Here's why.
