The WNET Group is extending the footprint of NPR to the very end of Long Island. The operator has acquired Montauk’s WEER and will use it to simulcast WLIW to Central and Western Suffolk, and parts of Southern Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Listeners in the expanded service area will now hear localized programming like Heart of the East End and Long Island Morning Edition along with NPR-syndicated shows like All Things Considered.

WLIW Vice President & General Manager Diane Masciale said, “WLIW-FM has taken another step forward in our coverage and commitment to our community. In the weeks ahead, we’re also looking to deliver a new app that will allow audiences to easily take WLIW-FM wherever life takes them.”
