A Voice Heard On Pittsburgh Radio For 42 Years Has Retired

Longtime KDKA Newsradio (KDKA-AM) traffic reporter Kathy Berggren has retired after more than four decades on the air. She started her career watching for traffic from on top of the US Steel Tower in downtown Pittsburgh with a pair of binoculars.

With the advancement of technology, Berggren left the tower behind to scan hundreds of PennDOT traffic cameras to deliver timely reports to commuters every day.

Audacy Pittsburgh and KDKA celebrated her work and dedication on May 31, which was dubbed “Kathy Berggren Day” on The Big K Morning Show. The celebration included an invitation to throw the first pitch at Pirates Spring Training next year.

She is retiring to enjoy more family time with her husband and visits with her children and grandchildren.
