FCC Issues Warning To Oklahoma AM Over Second Failure

6

Birach Broadcasting Corporation, the licensee of an Oklahoma AM, has been admonished by the FCC in a partial license renewal over the station’s history of prolonged inactivity and unauthorized reduced power operations. KJMU-AM, located in Sand Springs, was only granted a shortened one-year renewal.

Originally filed on February 16, the renewal application follows a prior one-year term starting July 15, 2022, due to the station’s extended periods of silence. The recent renewal period saw the station inactive for over four months, from January 8 to May 24, attributed to transmitter malfunctions. Additionally, the station operated at 25% of its authorized daytime power without night operations or FCC approval for nearly two months.

If KJMU is not restored to full operational status by the end of this term, Birach Broadcasting could face a hearing on the group’s ability to serve the public interest.

  1. Wonder if us public could take over the station. I live in Sapulpa and would love the chance to run a station. We need a left leaning station badly in this state.
