AI Has Potential; Have You Harnessed It?

(By Buzz Knight) I’m excited to be moderating a session at the 2023 NAB Show New York next week with an esteemed group of individuals. The panel is called “AI for Radio: Navigating Opportunities Across Operations” and our goal will be to provide attendees with actionable takeaways on how they can help their operations responsibly at a critical time for the business.

My responsibility in moderating the discussion is to try and ask the best questions that foster a useful discussion. In an increasingly digital and data-driven world, the radio industry should not be exempt from the transformative power of artificial intelligence.

Today, let’s explore effective ways for radio companies to harness the potential of AI, enhancing their competitiveness and ensuring their continued relevance in the digital age.

Personalized Content Recommendations 

One of the most powerful potential applications of AI for the radio industry is the ability to make personalized content recommendations to listeners. By analyzing user preferences, listening habits and historical data AI algorithms can suggest curated playlists and other content recommendations to suit listeners and match individual tastes. This enhances the listener experience and creates stronger brand engagement.

Content Generation 

AI powered tools can create content and enhance product development for the radio industry. Natural Language Processing algorithms can generate scripts relating to specific station programming or promotions and can also transcribe interviews or podcasts making content creation more efficient.

I believe these tools and techniques still need a human touch to ensure accuracy and quality.

Automated Advertising 

AI driven tools can help radio companies optimize ad targeting and scheduling. Machine learning algorithms can analyze listener demographics and behavior to serve ads that are more relevant and engaging.

Audience Analytics 

Understanding your audience has always been crucial in a competitive landscape and AI can potentially provide tremendous insights by analyzing listening behavior in real time. Imagine the possibilities that will enable a programmer to identify trends quicker, track listener sentiment and offer actionable insights for content improvement.

Artificial intelligence can revolutionize the radio industry by offering innovative ways to improve content creation, maximize audience engagement and grow operational efficiency.   1. I’m in sales. I want AI to help me. I’ve found some ways, but ya know what I really want? I want to take a picture of a print ad or banner ad and have AI create a Lead in my CRM in an instant. I don’t have a full 60-seconds to do it myself. I’m only half joking.
