Michigan-born broadcast executive Brian Maloney has unveiled his latest project: a new streaming radio station named The Sonic Coast. The app-based platform specializes in Americana and roots-rock, aiming to serve as a launchpad for both established and up-and-coming artists in genres ranging from folk to blues.
Maloney, who has over four decades of experience in radio, created the station as a tribute to Michigan’s rich musical landscape. “After traveling throughout the nation during my career, I realized that Michigan was truly unique in its grand scope of legacy musical talent and sheer volume of amazing emerging talent,” said Maloney. “This, coupled with the fact that radio has, for the most part, long given up on supporting local talent, led me to create a platform that offers Michigan bands and artists a major potential platform for exposure.”
The Sonic Coast features voicework from Jane Asher, another Michigan native and Maloney’s Specs Howard classmate who has been a familiar voice on Southern California radio since the 1980s.
Operated by Sonic Detroit LLC, the station is accessible through dedicated Android and iOS apps, home listening devices, and its official website. The Sonic Coast also offers exclusive partnership opportunities for select Michigan businesses, aiming to create a unique marketing experience.
