The upcoming NAB Show New York is set to feature two panels focusing on AM radio, signifying the medium’s ongoing relevance and challenges in the digital age. The panels aim to discuss strategies for audience engagement and delve into the technical aspects that are crucial for AM radio stations to remain competitive.

AM Radio’s Winning Strategies will be part of the Broadcast Content Summit, scheduled for Thursday, October 26. The session will commence with an update on the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act, followed by discussions on audience engagement strategies.

Hubbard Broadcasting CEO Ginny Morris and Connoisseur Media Program Director Jon Daniels will be among the speakers, while Perry Publishing and Broadcasting Company President Kevin Perry will moderate the panel.

Key AM radio programmers and talent will then share insights into how AM radio maintains its unique voice and vitality. The session will also explore localized tactics employed by AM stations to succeed in their respective markets.

Following that, the AM Chief Engineer Panel will take place on the Tech Chat Stage. The focus of this panel will be on the technical challenges that AM radio stations face, especially in light of discussions surrounding a potential AM receiver mandate in automobiles.

New York area AM radio station engineers will discuss key issues such as antenna system optimization, the use of metadata, and the potential for all-digital operations. Andy Gladding, Chief Engineer at Salem Media Group, and Dan Hirschl, VP of Engineering at Red Apple Media, will be the speakers for this panel, with Sprite Media, Inc. CTO Jeff Schick moderating.
