The University of Massachusetts has announced a partnership with Saga Communications New England, designating WHMP-AM in Northampton as the official terrestrial radio station for its football and hockey games. WHMP has partnered with UMass, particularly in hockey, since 2013.

The UMass football season will commence with a game against New Mexico State at Aggie Memorial Stadium in Las Cruces, NM on August 26. The deal includes 30 minutes of pre-game coverage on WHMP before each matchup. UMass’ radio broadcast team includes play-by-play by Jay Burnham, analysis by Pete Brock, and sideline reporting by Laura Stickells.

UMass Deputy Athletics Director for External Operations Jeff Smith said, “We’re excited to extend our relationship with Saga Communications, strengthening our commitment to our fans and providing a consistent destination to listen to all our football games.”

Vice President and General Manager of WHMP and the Northampton Radio Group David Oldread said, “UMass Athletics is a prominent part of that community. We’re pleased to provide UMass Football and Hockey with an outlet for all the Minutemen fans!”
