YouTube and UMG Make A.I. Pledge Around Music and Artists

YouTube has announced a new partnership with Universal Music Group and other leading figures in the music industry to embrace AI technology and foster creativity while maintaining responsibility and protecting artists. The collaboration aims to develop an AI framework centered around three fundamental principles.

The first tenet is embracing AI responsibly with music partners. YouTube is working with generative AI in the company’s Music AI Incubator. Working with Universal Music Group, artists, and producers, the incubator aims to gather insights on generative AI experiments and research.

Next, YouTube pledges to prioritize the protection of creative works through AI-powered technology like Content ID. The platform is eager to further build on its focus of helping artists and creators make money on YouTube while safeguarding the interests of copyright holders.

Lastly, YouTube is scaling its approach to include AI-generated content, building on years of investment in policies and safety measures. This includes continued investment in AI-powered technology to protect the community from challenges like copyright abuse, misinformation, and spam.

YouTube CEO Neal Mohan said, “I’m incredibly excited about the opportunity of AI to supercharge creativity around the world, but recognize that YouTube and the promise of AI will only be successful if our partners are successful. Together, we can embrace this new technology in a way that supports artists, songwriters, producers, and the industry as a whole while driving value for fans and pushing the bounds of what’s creatively possible.”
