Barrett Sports Media has named its Top 20 Local Sports Radio Afternoon Shows of 2018 for Major Markets (1-20) and Mid-Markets (21-100). After winning the Major Market category the past three years, WFAN’s Mike Francesa has given way to his local rival The Michael Kay Show. Kay edged 97.1 The Ticket’s Mike Valenti for the top spot.
In third place were 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Felger and Massarotti. The final two spots in the Top 5 belonged to ESPN 1000’s Waddle & Silvy (fourth) and KNBR’s Tom Tolbert and John Lund (fifth). Francesa slipped to sixth.
Barrett Sports Media President Jason Barrett said: “This year’s voting for the top afternoon show in a major market was the most interesting I’ve seen since we started this process. The Michael Kay Show consistently registered high marks with our voters.”
In the Mid-Market category 92.9 ESPN’s Gary Parrish grabbed top spot for 2018 with The Fast Lane from 101 ESPN in second place. In third place was 2017’s winner The Bull and Fox from 92.3 The Fan. Fourth and fifth were nabbed by Mark Madden of 105.7 The X, and Jim Traber of WWLS 98.1 The Sports Animal.
“Gary Parrish’s high-energy style and national profile have made his program a daily destination for Memphis sports radio fans,” said Barrett.
