Meet One Of Radio’s Most Influential Agents

0

Lisa Miller is the President of Miller Broadcast Management. Miller has influenced countless women and men in the broadcasting business since 1984. Before starting MBM Miller ran McCann Erickson in Chicago. As one of the first women agents in the business, Lisa set the bar for doing great business in an ethical and fair fashion. And, of course, Lisa Miller is one of Radio Ink‘s Most Influential Women in Radio.

Over the next several weeks we’ll be posting extended interviews with several 2018 MIWs before the entire list is released to subscribers on June 18. We believe that by providing details about how the 2018 MIWs have made it to the top, there’s a very good chance this information can help many of our readers compete and succeed in radio today.

The first point Miller wanted to make to us was that she was very thankful for being part of our 2018 MIW list. “I have mentored young men and women my entire adult life.

“Whether working with emancipated girls, helping college grads reach their goals, or working with teens on KidsRadio, I have found these times to be the most rewarding.  I thank you for your efforts in reminding all of us the importance of sharing your time with those that need it most.”

Here is our extended interview with Lisa Miller.

Radio Ink: Why do you believe you are successful?
Lisa Miller: Any professional success I have is a reflection of my clients’ success. Any personal success I have is a reflection of my desire to expect the best from myself. I work hard to find common ground between the parties, and I try to set the best course for success in all matters.

Radio Ink: What do you do to stay sharp?
Lisa Miller: I get up early and absorb as much as I can about the day’s news, industry trends, and opinions. I never sit still, I’m always moving forward. I live and breathe broadcast and surround myself with people who bring a different perspective, which keeps me on my toes.

Radio Ink: What are you doing to make the radio industry stronger?
Lisa Miller: Helping to create and bring forth talent with unique content. Our strongest asset as an industry is on-air talent. Their work is individual and unduplicated. Music can be found everywhere, whereas personalities and their take on a topic or an issue can only be found on radio. Radio stimulates the audience’s imagination while creating a personal relationship.

Radio Ink: Why do you believe it’s important to help the industry grow?
Lisa Miller: Because radio is intimate; it is a one-on-one experience unlike any other. Audiences let us into their cars, their homes, their offices and their lives. It is special and unique and free to everyone. The industry carries a great responsibility and is looked upon as a companion in the best and worst of times. Something so important demands our efforts to ensure the product not only survives, but thrives as well.

Radio Ink: If you were put on speaker phone with every radio manager on the other end, what would you say to them?
Lisa Miller: Management and talent need to work more cohesively in the best interest of the audience and the advertiser in order to capture the ever-changing habits of today’s consumer. Talent is on the frontline, and like a military leader, some of the best intel comes from those fighting in the battle. Likewise, talent benefits from learning the needs and wants of the advertisers and the company.

Radio Ink: What do you want to see radio do better?
Lisa Miller: Industry leaders are working diligently to raise the profile of the industry to the global community. Radio needs to continue to share its success stories, to champion the medium for its incredible penetration and its distinctive assets.
