Entercom makes a big move in a big market as its merger with CBS Radio closes, flipping Top 40 92.3 AMP Radio to Alternative as ALT 92.3.

“In a city where alternative music is a way of life, we are thrilled to finally fill the void in New York City,” Entercom President/Programming Pat Paxton said. “With the launch of ALT 92.3, we will cater to the passionate audience who have helped define the genre for decades — and we couldn’t be more excited to turn up the volume.”

ALT debuted at 10 a.m. with 10,000 songs commercial-free; the station is also streaming at alt923radio.com.

  1. This is such a horrible station now. It was perfect the way it was when I first listened. This station used to play the type of music that I listen to, which is Top 40 & Pop. Just like in New York, they have the station, 92.3, but it’s called Fly 92.3, and it plays Top 40 & Pop, just like when this was 92.3 Amp Radio.

  2. To whoever made this decision take your head out your a** you just killed radio with that garbage. It’s clear your not in touch or have an ear for what New York needs in music. Then to do it right before the holidays is disgusting i hope it fails miserably. DELETED..

  3. Finally go listen to KTU or Z100 was the same Garbage Amp Played this will now be on my preset. About time thank you and keep up the good music

  4. I enjoyed 92.3 AMP radio and the songs they played, but I never liked how when my mom drove me to school there was barely any music playing, now this new station doesn’t have a morning show ^_^ … Also, Around the time the flip happened, I started listening to more alternative and rock than pop, so this is perfect.

  5. I am completely shocked. I loved this station. All weekend I’m like what the heck happened. It make me said. It hear them in the morning before work and my ride after work. You ever made this descision certainly didn’t think how much people like it. When no one listens to it the will see. Deleting this station.

  6. I hate the new station. Worst music ever. And they way this played out. Loosing a job is one thing but before the hildays is down right dirty. Took them off my preset station as well. I wish the DJ’s the best of luck and there are better companies out there that will treat you better. God bless the old dj’s..

  8. I can’t believe this sh*t. So sad, and shocked to see my favorite radio station gone without a warning. 92.3 used to be the station that would get me all amped-up every day on my way to work. Will be truly missed:(
That ALT garbage suck ballz!!! Removing it from my preset!

  9. That’s radio for you. Staff always the last to know. They are catering this station now to the hipsters and hippies crowd in Brooklyn, Manhattan and other spots in the city. Won’t work though, NY always has been a rhythmic music city. RIP Amp Radio.

  10. Alternative music has been tried before in NY – on 101.9 – what is Entercom (and 92.3) gonna be able to do differently so that it would actually work this time around??

  11. Never listening to this station, I was so happy with 923 when it was 923 NOW, I didn’t mind it when it changed to 923 AMP, but really? ALT? No one listens to alternative in this city anymore and the Shoboy in the Morning show was just perfect. Screwed it all up!
