Commissioner Pai To Keynote Hispanic Radio Conference

If the FCC is to help the broadcast industry survive and flourish, Commissioner Ajit Pai may be the man to make it happen. Hear his thoughts on the state of the FCC at the Hispanic Radio Conference! Possibly the FCC’s greatest ally to the broadcast industry, Pai has been a leading advocate for the revitalization of the AM band, and called it a “big victory” when in October the long-awaited FCC AM revitalization order was released — including something Pai had particularly pushed for: an FM translator modification window for AMs this year and a translator auction window in 2017.

His initiatives have been those of opportunity: making the commission more open to innovation, to new products and services, and to greater opportunity for our industry to compete, leading to economic growth and job creation. He is outspoken about Section 7 of the Communications Act, which gives the FCC a one-year timeline to review new technology; accelerating the allocation of mobile bandwidth; the commission’s current policy on “net neutrality” — Pai was intensely opposed to the new Internet regulatory scheme adopted in 2014 — and in expediting the transition to IP technology.

A son of immigrants from India, Pai is a graduate of Harvard University and the University of Chicago School of Law. He has a background on communications law, first as counsel to Verizon and then in private practice in Washington, DC. With experience on Capitol Hill and tin he Justice Department, he was nominated to an FCC Republican position by President Obama and unanimously confirmed by Congress in 2012.

Pai’s voice can be rallying cry for our industry as we battle regulations and laws designed for a broadcast world long gone. Hear his plans for the new, technological broadcast field at the Radio Ink Hispanic Radio Conference, coming up March 22-23 in Fort Lauderdale.

The Hispanic Radio Conference is the only conference dedicated solely to Hispanic radio. Now in its 7th year, the conference attracts the industry’s key leadership in management, sales, and programming, whose combined audience reaches approximately 95% of the 50+ million Hispanics in this country.
