Food Fight! The Winner: Charity

Radio folk are always innovative when it comes to finding novel ways to raise money for charity. So a tip of the hat to WHBC-AM and Mix 94.1 (WHBC-FM) in Canton, OH, for presenting its fifth McKinley-Massillon Food Fight, which took place between October 17 and 28 (that’s a lot of food!). McKinley and Massillon are rival high schools in the Stark County area, but they come together to collect donations for the Stark County Hunger Task Force. This year the schools collected 31,516 pounds of food in groceries and monetary donations. (Every dollar raised buys seven pounds of food.) To date, the annual Food Fight has brought in a total of 116,000 pounds to the benefit area residents in need.

Alpha Media Market Manager, Larry Gawthrop commented on the announcement, “We are very proud of our role in this historic high school football rivalry.  The food fight has continued to grow and has become the charitable component for this community battle.”
