That Pennsylvania market (Nielsen market #72) was not mentioned as part of the original plan to divest stations to stay under FCC caps. Entercom currently has 6 signals in Wilkes-Barre, WGGY (Froggy 101) is a country station. Before this announcement, EMF did not have a signal in the market.

The Broadcasters Foundation of America has established the Gary Fries Memorial Fund to honor the former RAB CEO. Fries was a long-time director of the Broadcasters Foundation. He died this past Friday at the age of 76.

This Wednesday, September 27, Steve and Ted in the Morning on KNSS/Wichita will celebrate their 5000th show. Local boys Steve McIntosh and Ted Woodward have won multiple awards from The Associated Press, Kansas Association of Broadcasters, RTNDA with a Murrow, and the National Association of Broadcasters with a Marconi.

Matt McAllister is the new host of KKWF, FM 100.7 The Wolf morning show. He’ll kick out the jams on October 2 from 6 to 10 a.m. PST, joining the Seattle country station from KNIX-FM in Phoenix, where he spent a decade on-air in the mornings.

Marc Kaye is the Market Manager for Hubbard Radio in Seattle. He's also been chosen as one of Radio's Best Managers for 2017 and will be featured in the October 9 issue of Radio Ink Magazine, along with a small group of radio's other top managers. Kaye runs a five-station cluster for Hubbard in Seattle, leading and managing over 100 employees.

On Tuesday, the FCC proposed the maximum fine allowable by statute — $144,344 — against a pirate radio station in North Miami, Florida. The action marks the first time the Commission has proposed finding the property owners where the transmission equipment was located apparently liable for the operation of the station.

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai continues his aggressive attack against pirate operators, especially those that are repeat offenders. Following the announcement that North Miami pirates would be hit with the maximum fine allowable ($144,000), Pai said since becoming Chairman he's made it quite clear that the FCC won’t tolerate the unauthorized and illegal use of the radio spectrum.

On Tuesday, the Federal Communications Commission issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that proposed to eliminate rules requiring certain broadcasters to keep paper copies of FCC rules. Copies of the rules are now available online and the Commission stated the paper copy requirements are outdated and unnecessarily burdensome.

The Philadelphia 76ers aren’t moving on the radio dial and have announced a multi-year extension with Beasley Media Group’s 97.5 The Fanatic (WPEN) to serve as the team’s flagship radio station. The Fanatic will continue to exclusively broadcast 76ers games, as well as remain the official home of 76ers pre-game, halftime, and post-game shows.

The Indiana Pacers have renewed their play-by-play deal with Emmis' 107.5 FM/1070 AM The Fan in Indianapolis. This will be the 22nd season Pacers games have been broadcast on an Emmis station. Terms of the new agreement were not disclosed.
