Bouvard Pokes Holes In Music Biz Study

6
As we've been telling you over the past two days, a company that promotes online music produced a study that said Millennials were running away from radio into the arms of streamers. Cumulus/Westwood One Chief Insights Officer Pierre Bouvard took a whack at that study and produced 21 slides that refute it. He used data from Nielsen, Edison Research, and the Advertising Research Foundation to create the slides.

About That Music Biz Report

After running our Wednesday story about the Music Biz survey and how Millennials are getting their music from streaming and not radio, we spoke to several radio executives to get their opinion. Here is why they object to the Music Biz research.

Nielsen Reported Radio Is Strong With Millennials

2
It was less than two months ago that Nielsen sent out a report on Millennials that stated in the average week, radio reaches 89% of "On Their Own Millennials." And that number rises to 92% among Millennials who are starting a family. Nielsen stated that, on average, radio reaches nine out of 10 Millennials each week.

KNBR Staffers, SAG-AFTRA Rally For More Money

Employees want a minimum of $17 an hour for off-air staff, and $30 an hour for on-air talent at the Cumulus sports station. SFGate.com reports Cumulus has countered with the San Francisco minimum wage of $13.00 per hour, according to union negotiators. The rally was held outside AT&T Park in San Francisco. None of KNBR's big name talent such as Gary Radnich, Tom Tolbert, and Murph & Mac were at the rally. Clearly those KNBR stars are making more than minimum wage.

Cumulus Birmingham Giving Away A Rifle

It's actually a gift certificate to win a rifle at a local gun shop because the station is not a licensed gun dealer and cannot give away the actual rifle. This image is how the giveaway is being promoted on the Talk 99.5 website. Host Matt Murphy tells Al.com, "This is a way to break down some of the miscellaneous beliefs about this type of gun (The Bushmaster XM15)."

PD Ken West said, "We are passionate about delivering our content in a non-cluttered, non-controversial, pure-play music environment by playing the most music. In doing so, we are offering the ALT 92.9 Promise: 60 minutes of music after every commercial break."
