Lack of Political Rev. Hurts Beasley’s 2017 Q4
Pro-forma revenue for Beasley's 4th quarter declined 6.9% or $4.9 million. Eighty percent ($3.9 million) of that decline was due to political revenue in 2016 that did not return in 2017. National ad revenue, automotive and retail were weak in the quarter. Consumer Services was a strong category.
They Just Bought Their First Station
Newly created Border Media, owned by Ricki Lee and Hanna Kaleta have purchased WRGR-FM in Tupper Lake, NY, from Radio Lake Placid for $8,000. Lee said, "My wife and I are really excited to announce this acquisition. After numerous visits to the Adirondacks, we’ve simply fallen in love with the area and we’ve been exploring radio ownership for some time."
Remember Your Public File Is Going Online
The FCC wants radio stations to remember to get their Public Files online by March 1. Commercial stations in Nielsen's top 50 markets, with five or more full-time employees, were required to use the FCC's online public file database on June 24, 2016. All other radio stations were exempted until March 1, 2018.
An Appeal For A Radio Friend
(By Eric Rhoads) We all have friends whom we grew up with in radio and became close. For me, one of those people is KINK Portland PD Sean Demery (pictured here). I hired him in Fresno when I was PD of KIOY. I was 22 he was 19. Three weeks ago Sean collapsed with a brain stem stroke.
RAB Hosting Four Sessions In Vegas
The Radio Advertising Bureau will present four revenue and professional development-oriented sales and marketing sessions at this year’s NAB Show in Las Vegas April 7-12. All of the sessions are a part of the Business of Broadcast Conference, at the Las Vegas Convention Center North Hall.
GEICO Has Another Big Week On The Radio
No surprises from the Media Monitors weekly chart of top radio advertisers. GEICO was once again radio's biggest advertiser last week, airing 41,748 commercials on radio stations all across the country. Who else made the top five?
WNCY Raises A Windfall In Green Bay
WNCY/Appleton-Oshkosh (Y100) finished its 21st St. Jude Radiothon last Friday in Green Bay, WI, with a final total of $315,577, which marked a $15,000 increase over the previous year. The station's 21-year total is now just under $5,000,000.
Is iHeart Moving Closer to Deal With Lenders?
In an SEC filing late last week, iHeart Communications detailed more of the ongoing negotiations the company is having with lenders. iHeart has been working with lenders to find a way to deal with over $20 Billion in debt.
