Local Radio Reaches Out To Help Farmers
WRDN Radio's Brian Winnekins tells Radio Ink his team organized a town hall meeting Wednesday because it "needed to be done" to help the local community. WRDN (Durand, WI) is very important to the farming community and the station has a lot of farm listeners. The focus of the meeting was to discuss how the current farm crisis has affected farmers and their families. And, unless you're a farmer, you may not know how bad it really is.
WPLJ Goodbyes Begin Today
The final countdown begins at 9 a.m. today with WPLJ legends such as Scott Shannon, Patty Steele, Jim Kerr, Mark Coppola, Pat St. John and others. Friday night at 7 p.m. is when it all ends after nearly 50 years on the air. EMF will then take over the station and flip to its K-LOVE format.
College, WBUR To Share Control of Station
Boston University is agreeing to share control of WBUR with a station board whose members have, until now, been advisers and donors with no decision-making power. The deal outlined Wednesday would give a new executive committee the authority to hire and fire the station’s general manager and oversee its finances.
iHeart Shuffles Frequencies in Virginia
iHeartMedia Roanoke/Lynchburg announced today that Top-40 WJJS-FM (Top 40) and STEVE-FM (Random Radio) have moved to new frequencies. WJJS-FM has moved its FM frequency to 93.5 in Roanoke and will continue to simulcast on 102.7 in Lynchburg. STEVE-FM has moved its FM station frequency to 104.9.
Station Tower Falls In Nevada
KELK-AM in Elko, Nevada is off the air after its tower collapsed into a parking lot in a restaurant damaging several cars. No one was injured. The 198-foot tower, located behind the station, fell after a truck hit its supporting guywires. It could be several days before the station is back on the air.

Duke Becomes President
Michelle Duke has been named President of the NAB Leadership Foundation. Duke has served as VP of the Foundation since 2010. She succeeds Marcellus Alexander, who has served as President since 2004, and earlier this year announced his plans to retire from the role.
