In Aggressive Competitive Plan, Tidal Slashes Subscription Price

As competitors YouTube Music, Spotify, and Apple Music raise their prices, hi-fi music streamer Tidal is cutting its price in half in an attempt to woo subscribers. The move comes as Tidal combines both subscription tiers into one package and eliminates its free offering.

Tidal is aligning its price with Spotify’s $10.99 plan, offering lossless audio for the same price. The revamped pricing structure includes a Tidal Family plan at $16.99 monthly and introduces a DJ Extension add-on for an extra monthly fee, catering to users interested in mixing tracks from Tidal’s DJ partners.

With the loss of Tidal’s free tier, former no-cost users will have to switch to a paid subscription to continue accessing the service. While Tidal and Spotify are now priced equivalently, they cater to distinct segments of the music-listening audience.

This pricing strategy, effective April 10, sharpens Tidal’s competitive edge, especially as Spotify has yet to fulfill its promise of introducing a lossless audio tier. As other streamers still struggle with profitability, this could become another hard hit as audiophiles potentially move to Tidal, no longer daunted by cost.
