After his sudden firing in March, former ESPN Radio Syracuse (WTLA-AM) host Brent Axe is venturing into podcasting. Syracuse Sports with Brent Axe will feature various Syracuse sports topics and offer a unique perspective on college athletics.
In a conversation with Awful Announcing, Axe explained his shift to podcasting as a way to stay in the audio space while trying something new. He also emphasized that he wants to maintain a connection with his audience and engage in relevant conversations without being confined to daily news.
When Galaxy Media Partners dismissed Axe, CEO Ed Levine attributed the decision to Axe’s “overly negative” stance on Syracuse basketball. Though Axe couldn’t prove a connection between former Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim’s influence and his firing, he fully believes it was a move to “appease” the retired coach.
