YouTube Samples A New Music Discovery Mode

0

YouTube Music has introduced a new feature called Samples, aimed at helping users discover and sample new music. The feature will be a vertical video feed, similar to TikTok’s scrolling feed, and will offer a quick way to find new music tailored to users’ tastes.

Samples will be located in a new tab within the app and will automatically start playing a 30-second vertical video clip of a song that YouTube Music predicts the user will enjoy. These predictions are based on the user’s profile and preferences, highlighting both familiar artists and new ones.
Unlike existing playlists within the app, Samples will aim to sit between the Supermix and Discover playlists, focusing on artists that users may know but offering clips they might not have seen before.
Users can easily swipe up to jump to another song, save songs to their playlists, share links, and even start a continuous radio station from a song. The feature is also integrated with YouTube’s “Shorts” button, allowing users to create their own clip with the song.
However, the new addition has changed some of the app’s expected behaviors, leading to potential user interface challenges. Despite these minor issues, Samples seems to be an engaging addition to the YouTube Music app.
The Samples feature has started rolling out globally for both Android and iOS users.
